Glynn Perry began his swimming career at a very young age. He set Georgia state records in every age group from 8 and under to senior boys. Glynn was the USA Junior National Champion in both the 400 Individual Medley and the 200 Butterfly in 1976. In 1979 he was the Senior National Champion in the 200 Butterfly. Glynn attended the University of Florida where he received six All-American honors and was a member of the 1979 Pan American Games.
