Bill Forrester
Bill began his swimming career with Birmingham Swim League. He later swam for Randy Reese at the Jacksonville Episcopal High School. Bill attended Auburn University where he won several SEC and NCAA individual and relay titles. He also represented the United States in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal where he won a Bronze Medal in the 200 meter butterfly. In 1994, after gaining experience from coaching summer league, Bill founded the Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team, GCAT. Beginning with only five swimmers, GCAT has grown into a leading program in South Georgia with over 250 swimmers, highlighted by regional and state championships, a national age group record, and Olympic Trial qualifiers every year since 2000. Bill’s coaching philosophy involves equipping swimmers with a positive mental attitude, daily commitment, and continuous goal setting, and this coaching philosophy has sent 70 GCAT alumni to many elite college programs.
