2015

Hal Stolz-2015

Hal Stolz won multiple SEC Championship titles for the University of Georgia from 1953-1956. Stolz was the SEC men’s champion in the 3x100y medley relay, which is no longer an SEC event. In 1955 and 1956, Stolz won SEC titles in both the 200y breaststroke and the 200y butterfly. Stolz also won the 200y individual medley during the 1956 SEC Championships. Prior to swimming at UGA, Stolz was a three-time state high school champion and state record holder in the 100y breaststroke.

As a United States Masters Swimming (USMS) swimmer, Stolz has earned over 100 National Top Ten rankings and was the 2014 World Champion in the 100 Breastroke. Also in 2014, Stolz was a member of three World Record setting relays, the 4x50m short course medley relay, 4x100m long-course medley relay and the 4x100m long course freestyle relay.

2015

Kathleen Hersey-2015

Kathleen Hersey is a two-time Olympian who attended Marist High School and swam for SwimAtlanta. While at Marist, Kathleen broke the National High School Record in both the 100y butterfly and the 200y individual medley. Kathleen continued winning titles at the University of Texas. She won eleven Big 12 Conference titles and was a 7-time All-American. Additionally, Kathleen was a five-time USA Swimming National Champion in the 200y butterfly and the 200m butterfly. Kathleen represented the United States in numerous international competitions including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 2012 Olympic Games in London, and the 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro. In the 2012 Games, Kathleen finished fourth in the 200 meter butterfly.

2015

Carlos Enrique DeCubas-2015

Carlos Enrique DeCubas began his career as the Olympic swimming and diving coach in Cuba. Desiring to leave Cuba after Castro gained control, DeCubas escaped with his family to the United States. Although his initial job in America was a deck boy at the Dunes Hotel in Miami Beach, DeCubas later returned to his passion of coaching both swimming and diving. DeCubas coached at the Ansley Golf Club, the Atlanta Athletic Club, Birmingham Southern, and Georgia Tech. DeCubas coached both Jenny Chandler Stevenson and Billy Heinz, fellow Georgia Aquatic Hall of Fame inductees.

Carlton Bruner-2015

Carlton Bruner is an Olympian who grew up swimming with Dynamo Swim Club. From 1991-1994, Bruner swam for the University of Florida. While a collegiate swimmer, Bruner won two SEC championship titles in distance freestyle events. He was a five-time National Champion in the 1500m freestyle. Bruner competed in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, finishing 13th in the 1500 meter freestyle. He also competed in the Pan-Pacific Games, World Championships, and Pan-American Games. In 1995, Bruner won gold at the Pan-Am Games in the 1500m freestyle.

Bruner remains involved with swimming by giving back through Swim Across America events.

Donna (Humphrey) Quinn-2015

Donna (Humphrey) Quinn was an outstanding high school swimmer for Westminster during the 1960’s. A backstroke specialist, Quinn participated in the Senior National Championships and the 1968 Olympic Trials. Quinn was coached by fellow Georgia Aquatic Hall of Famer, Pete Higgins. She was a four-year State Champion in the 100y backstroke and set the National Record in 1967. Although Quinn attended Duke University, she was unable to continue swimming because Duke did not have a women’s team. In 1973, Quinn was Inducted into the Westminster Schools Hall of Fame.
