Bauerle\u2019s connection with UGA first began as a student-athlete in 1971. After assistant coaching for a few years, he became the head coach of UGA\u2019s women&#8217;s team in 1979 before taking on the men&#8217;s team as well in 1983. In his nearly 40 years of coaching at UGA, Bauerle has successfully coached individual SEC champions, All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, National and World Champions, and Olympians representing multiple countries. Bauerle has been named to the coaching staff of numerous Duel in the Pool, Pan-Pacific, World Championship, World University Games, and Olympic teams. He is the most winning women&#8217;s head coach in NCAA history. He has been inducted into the Montgomery County (Pennsylvania) Coaches Hall of Fame (2011) and Georgia Sports of Fame (2012), as well as receiving the Bill Hartman Award (2011), one of the highest honors given to a former UGA student-athlete based on 20 years of excellence in his profession. During the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the United States women\u2019s swimming team under the direction of Bauerle earned 14 medals including two golds, seven silvers, and five bronze, the most of any nation. Bauerle continues to coach at UGA.
